Course overview and purpose:
The course “Strategies for multilingual and intercultural teaching” prepares teachers to confidently navigate the complexity of today’s diverse learning environments, where students come from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds and may not share a common language with each other or with the teacher.
Grounded in inclusive pedagogy and real classroom practice, the course provides concrete strategies to ensure that all learners can access content, participate actively, and feel valued.
Participants will examine how language, identity, and migration experiences shape learning, and how linguistic and cultural diversity can become a resource rather than a barrier. Special attention is given to relational skills, non-verbal communication, and classroom interaction, highlighting how gestures, tone, body language, and visual support can enhance understanding when verbal communication is limited.
Through interactive activities, case studies, and collaborative reflection, teachers will develop adaptable approaches to lesson planning, classroom management, and assessment in linguistically and culturally complex settings. By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to design inclusive, engaging, and effective learning experiences for all students
